Charming Cookie-Cutter Candles

December 2014 Up-Cycle

Supplies:

•Candle ends
•Crayons (optional)
•Small saucepan
•Small glass or metal bowl or clean tin can
•Parchment paper
•Cookie cutters
•Sheet pan
•Candlewicks

Instructions:

1.Start by simmering water in a small saucepan. Place a heat-safe metal or glass bowl, or tin can, filled with candle ends, in the saucepan, creating a homemade double boiler. You can add a bit of color to the candles by dropping bits of crayons in with the candle ends. Once the wax is around 100˚F, you're ready to start pouring.
2.Cover the sheet pan with parchment paper and then position the cookie cutters on the tray. Place a candlewick in each cookie cutter, or run a length through the center of the candle for a cute standing candle.
3.Now slowly pour the wax into the cookie cutters while gently pressing down, which helps keep the cookie cutter in place and the wax where it belongs. And if you pour the wax while it's too hot, things get messy.
4.*Once the wax has completely cooled, you can pop the candles out of the cookie cutters or leave as is. Just make sure to burn in a votive or on a candleholder to prevent the wax from getting all over the place.
